South Coast Business Development Organisation
Mission Statement
"Through positive and cooperative partnerships with business, government, education providers and the community, deliver quality facilitation, support and assistance to business together with enterprise development in the Rockingham and Kwinana region with emphasis on innovation, efficiency and employment"
Previously know as the Rockingham Business Development Organisation, the South Coast Business Development Organisation (SCBDO) was founded in April 2003. The name change was necessary to reflect the organisation's regional role and importance plus the need for a non-centric location identity.
The organisation has become a leader in business development and innovation, which includes the introduction of several leading edge business initiatives.
In addition to providing guidance and taking corporate responsibility for the Rockingham Business Development Centre (RBDC) and the Kwinana Technology Business Centre (KTBC) the SCBDO is at the forefront of regional business leadership and initiatives.
The organisation is responsible for successfully combining the management of a Business Enterprise Centre (BEC) and business incubators under a single management regime. Both the Rockingham and Kwinana business incubators are jointly managed, together with a BEC, under single management structure. This not only creates efficiencies, but also allows synergies for better servicing clients and the business community.
The organisation has a progressive outlook and works closely with key regional, State and National stakeholders. From a regional perspective, SCBDO is requested regularly to be part of key forums that impact on regional economic development, business and employment.
In September 2002 SCBDO, along with other key regional stakeholders and private sector representatives, initiated a visit to Cyberjaya in Malaysia as part of an initiative to form a working relationship with one of SE Asia's most recognised IT&C groups - the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDC). The visit was highly successful and ultimately lead to the signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in February 2004, thus formally recognising the relationship between both organisations - SCBDO and MDC.
Additional valuable MOU's have been negotiated and signed with Murdoch University (WA) and the Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in NZ, which means exchanges in business and commerce are encouraged between our respective organisations. It also means SCBDO, through the Kwinana Technology Business Centre (KTBC) can arrange exchanges for students and entrepreneurs from our alliance partner's technology incubators to locate at KTBC (and vice versa) thus gaining valuable commercial experience in international markets.
SBCDO has introduced its own business training program - Smart Business Answers to assist business owners and staff in the region increase skill levels and apply knowledge to improve their businesses.
As part of its corporate responsibilities the organisation has produced a comprehensive Operating and Procedures Manual to ensure operational procedures and corporate responsibilities are clearly identified, documented and practiced.
SCBDO is proud of its record and achievements and looks forward to continuing its role as the regions leading innovative business organisation.
